In 1992, industrial automation sweeps across the oilpatch, as SCADA systems and remote data collection became the focus. ENCOM, whose specialty had been voice communications networks, jumps into the data communications field with both feet, designing and installing some of the first wireless data systems in North America and becoming a major player in the industry.
In 1996, ENCOM again shifts its focus to traffic management systems, a virtual blank slate in the world of wireless data communications. A tireless innovator with a solutions-oriented attitude, the company soon dominates the field and becomes the leader in wireless ITS systems.
In the early years of the new millennium, due to the powerful and reliable wireless systems deployed by ENCOM, wireless becomes widely accepted as a mature technology, and becomes the standard for communications networks worldwide.
